The Blockchain, Fintech, and Cryptocurrency Research Group (BFCRG) at the University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) held a productive introductory online meeting with the Waste Management Association of Malaysia (WMAM) on 14th August 2024, paving the way for a promising cross-sector collaboration.

The meeting brought together seven participants, including:
- Ms. Mun Kaik, Executive Director of WMAM
- Ts Dr Mohammad Dalvi Esfahani, Lead of BFCRG
- Associate Professor Dr Sagaya Amalathas, Deputy Lead of BFCRG
- Dr Nasrin Azar, BFCRG Member
- Professor Jo-Han Ng, Director of Research, UoSM
- Professor Mohd Nazri Mohd Noor, Chief Academic Officer
- Professor Jason Turner, Head of the Southampton Malaysia Business School
This session fostered a mutual understanding of the vision, research priorities, and outreach activities of both BFCRG and WMAM. The discussion explored potential collaborations in areas such as blockchain-enabled waste management systems, traceability, and sustainability reporting technologies—all aligning with national goals and global sustainability frameworks.
As a next step, BFCRG is working towards signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WMAM to formalize the partnership and begin exploring joint research projects and engagements with WMAM’s partner industries.
This collaboration exemplifies BFCRG’s mission to drive meaningful industry-academic partnerships that support innovation, environmental responsibility, and digital transformation.
